Transnational artistic residency
consensus
In the 2024/2025 season, Colectivo Priekopník Veverička strengthens the development of the Slovak art scene by collaborating with the Greek Dance Days Chania festival, thereby jointly creating an artistic bridge for young creators between the two countries.
The dramaturgical and methodological goal of the 3rd year of the Transnational artist residency project is to explore horizontal methodologies of creation, with the priority being the exchange between participants with a common artistic interest but with a different cultural and social context.
After the first physical and creative meeting, the first artistic residency at IP12 House in Chania/Greece, the creative team begins the second part of their research process at the theater Divadlo Štúdio tanca.
The audience is welcome to experience two versions of this choreographic installation: on April 4th in the Divadlo Štúdio tanca theater hall at 19:00 and on April 5th in a site-specific form in the Výklad café during Saturday brunch at 10:00. Join us as we witness the transformation and adaptation of artistic production in various spatial contexts.
Freedom within drawing lines. The windows are open to see further. Allow the unknown to enter your space. Feed curiosity, feel needs.
The union of two unknown women. The purpose? To build a world with its own taste through movement. A kinetic installation willing to develop the practices of the meeting of two artists as an experiment in a constant loop. How do we apply empathy in contact with a stranger? How can we host ourselves under our own skin?
Feel free to move around in space, feel free to change your position and point of view, feel free to enjoy it or not!
COMPROMISE vs. CONSENSUS
Society often teaches us to compromise and suppress our needs.
Why did Divadlo Štúdio tanca choose this project in frame of theater’s Artgang pogram?
In words of artistic director Zebastián Méndez Marín:
"I love that the project brings together two artists from different countries who have never met before to explore their work together. I was lucky enough to observe the first part of this process in Chania, Greece last year and was moved by the deep connection that was created between the artists. Miška and Evita have connected their experiences in a very intimate work. Sometimes they intersect, sometimes each of them is unique and different, but there are always paths drawn within them, always mixing and returning to each other. I look forward to where this second stage in Banská Bystrica will take them.”
Dance Days Chania festival:
The idea of this transnational residency has been around for many years before its realization in this year’s DDC programming. It is seen as an investment in the potentiality of research and development of young Greek artists through the opportunity to engage in an embodied dialogue between movement artists/researchers from different cultures, backgrounds and techniques.
The aim of the project is to contribute to the exchange of ideas and artistic practices, creating a network of support.
"Dance Days Chania" International Contemporary Dance Festival is organized by the "Syn-Kinisi" Association of Expressive Dance since 2011 with the voluntary work of its members. DDC receives the EFFE Label certification since 2017 from the European Festivals Association.
The main partner of the project and supported by public funds was the Arts Support Fund Fond na podporu Umenia.
